SEI was selected to design a roundabout at the intersection of Sargent Road and Crossington Road. The project was designed to assist in traffic calming on Sargent Road, as well as provide easier ingress and egress from the Wellington Subdivision community. The current intersection footprint allowed SEI to utilize as much of the existing pavement as possible to help reduce the construction cost and schedule. Part of the challenges associated with this project included the intersection being in a full superelevated section, as well as being located next to a steep embankment. To accommodate these issues, SEI corrected the superelevation of the approaches on Sargent Road, reducing the height for the required retaining wall. A stone-faced, concave gravity retaining wall was designed adjacent to the roundabout, helping SEI achieve the desired deflection required on roundabout entries and exits.
